Homemade Electric Guitar

6 May 2018

When this Project14 challenge came up I knew exactly what I would submit. I have been working on this electric guitar for a few months now and just finished it up. I made everything except for the pickups, that is my next step in my instrument making. I always do my own wiring for the guitars. The guitar body, neck and fret board was all hand built by myself. I created this semi-hollow body guitar from solid figured cherry and figured maple. The maple is the neck and the cherry is the body. I did the staining and finishing as well. The electronics themselves as you can see is fairly easy but has great results!!

And finally the end result, the working guitar. (Sorry for it being dark as well not knowing how to play the guitar)

Hi Dale, Very nice project that demonstrates your skills in electronics and woodworking. I have a friend who likes to build guitars and has on a couple occasions asked me to wire them for him. John

Hi John, Thank you for the compliment!! I have been doing woodworking longer then electronics. I have been a luthier for over 20 years, I started with violins. I was taught by a great luthier from Europe…

    Hi Dale,

I would really like to see the violin. I have never been musical but oddly enough for several years I owned a music shop. I sold guitars, rented out band instruments, and sold all the accessories. While I couldn't play any of the instruments I did get a good dose of fixing them which I found very enjoyable. We used to do the very simplest of repairs to the violins and anything more serious went to a guy that was a specialist.
