Project14 | Winners Announcement: Stand Out RF and Radio Control Projects!

Radio Control

Monthly Themes   | Monthly Poll   |  Back to homepage image

Congratulations to shabaz  for Software Defined Radio (SDR) Experiment Board ,  scottiebabe for EM Surfer , and robogary for  RC Toy Hack - RC car rescue/restore/recycle/retrofit !   You are the winner of a $166.67  Shopping Cart!

The theme for this contest was  Radio Control and your project could be anything that involves or explores RF including circuits, antennas, SDR (Software Defined Radio), ham radio, modulation/demodulation, RADAR (acronym for Radio Detection And Ranging), and more!  Your projects Your project could involve applications related to RF including robots, data acquisition projects, data transfer, automation, remote control, wireless sensor networks, cellular IoT, health, object detection, and more!  Your projects could use any combination of amplifiers, modulators, transmitters, antennas, coaxial cables, detectors, and more.  This theme was broadly defined to encourage participation.

We had 3 outstanding projects and in the end we decided they were equally worthy so we split the prizes between each of the entrants.   Special thanks to redcharly and  DAB for reaching out and judging.   We had two really different sets of picks and what that told us is that this contest was simply too close to call.

"The best is, in my opinion, the "EM Surfer" work of Scott Stobbe It is a project full of theory and very useful information for those who want to apply Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR). A well-done article, with images and videos that make it very captivating." - Community Member Judge

Congrats Scott and Gary! The projects were great to read, there was lots of useful information, and by chance all of the entries ended up covering different areas of RF topics - this is awesome.

Now the dilemma what components to buy for a future Project 14 competition!

SDR Experimenter: The hand selection of the SD5400 in place of the venerable 74HC4066, made this truly an artisan homebrew. There is something really magically about being amble to hear audio from a circuit you've designed. Well done!

RC Restoration: Restoring and upgrading a previously hot rodded RC car to version 2.0. Its remarkable how quickly you were able to integrate so many different technologies into one RC car. You now have quite the RC vehicle ready for some new adventures!

I have many more exciting updates to share of the EM Surfer when my Photography and DIY Test shopping carts hopefully eventually make their way to my front door.
