    Kinda embarrassed to admit this but I went on Tubi to watch old episodes of Transformers cartoons from the 80s.

     

    The backstory is that both he and Starscream use to be scientists and best friends:

     

     

     

    He starts out as a Decepticon but then switches sides to the Autobots and his name changes from Skyfire to Jetfire....

    It's as though one toy company bought the mold from another and sold it under their own branding image
