David's HLH Build Part 3

I am going to keep this update brief as a bit of a tease!

 

The breadboard is now complete, so I can now focus on how all the working components are going to squeeze in and work together.

I have also spent some time in Autodesk Fusion 360 designing the 3D printed parts.

As I stated in my declaration, I wanted to learn and improve what I know, and I am certainly doing that. I don't want to give too much away, but all will be revealed in the video!

 

What do you think of the concept, I am trying to keep it small enough to be pocketable! Any advice? What would you like to see?

    I have thought about it, I promise!

     

    It's not particularly clear from the picture above, but the leading edge (top edge) of the screen case is slightly raised, with the main body if it not fully closing flat onto the case. The hinge detail was also sized to hold the body up a touch, and also has a detent in the mechanism to hold it in the closed position.

  • Are you at all concerned about how/where the screen will impact the buttons when it is folded closed?

    I had originally planned on building a low pass filter and GPIO, however, I understand that needs GPIO 18 - which is used by the screen!

     

    I have an HDMI to VGA adapter with a 3.5mm jack standing by to sacrifice itself for the project!

    you lucky guy...my Setup draws so much current I had to Switch to a 2cell Lipo to dirstribute the load.
    but I get about 2,5hours runtime.

     

    How are you approaching the Sound issue with the pi Zero (Gpio or snitching it off the hdmi? or got another idea?)

    And a very good question! The quoted capacity of the boosted output is 2,500 mAh at 5V (the cell itself 3.7V at 9.62Wh). This should give me 12.5 Watt Hour. Although I can find plenty of data on the RPI 0 (180 mA) the screen seems to be a bit of a mystery. I guess the worst case is that it draws 1.1 A @ 5V or 5.5 Watts (the boost circuit is limited to 1.2A) so in theory, I should get just over 2 hours?

     

    The best way to know is to stick an ammeter in there while I am wiring up the power switch. Or just try it of course! Either way, thought the testing and debugging, I have probably run it for an hour already, and the cell has only dropped from 3.9V to 3.7V, so it looks promising!
