In this presentation you will learn about all the different possible location features of the nRF9160. You will learn about GPS tracking (A-GPS/P-GPS); LTE location tracking (Single/multicell) and you will also see how newly introduced location services from nRF Cloud can open new opportunities and save even more power consumption for your application. You will also get updated around new features in both the hardware and the software side of the nRF9160 that will help you achieve the longest possible battery life in an Asset tracking application. LTE-M and NB-IoT enable everything to be connected to the Internet. Learn how the nRF9160 SiP realizes this and makes it possible to build very small devices with many years of battery life.
During this event, attendees will have a chance to win one of five Nordic Thingy:91s for asking interesting questions about the Nordic Thingy:91, a multi-sensor prototyping platform aimed at cellular applications. The Thingy:91 is based on the nRF9160 System-in-Package (SiP), with LTE-M, NB-IoT, and GPS connectivity. It is ideal for creating proof-of-concept (PoC) projects, demos, and initial prototypes in the cellular IoT development phase.

Is this module capable of handling robotics based applications like Drones?
Sure you could use the nRF9160 in drones. I would however recommend using an external high accuracy GPS module since that is usually required on Drone applications
I am not sure which methods are used by nRF9160 for indor accurate positioning, Is it AoA, AoD and RSSI based methods like in Bluetooth or something else?
The nRF9160 can only use Single cell and Multicell location inside buildings. For more accurate positioning we recommend including e.g. nRF52 or nRF53 chip into the design and utilize AoA/AoD positioning or other indoor positioning techniques.
Do this module's SDK has support and compatibility for Linux OS?
Our nRF Connect SDK is supported on Linux, Microsoft and MacOS.
Martin, can you elaborate a little bit more on VSCode integration?

Are there plans to comply with the regulations in other countries in the LATAM region such as Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Chile or Ecuador?
Columbia has LTE-M, NB-IoT support. Argentina has LTE-M and NB-IoT support. For more details see: https://www.gsma.com/iot/deployment-map/
Usually using communication protocols like mqtt, http along with TLS reduce performance of the hardware. considering this device is a memory constrained one, do you have any benchmark on the performance of the device under various cryptographic methods (hashes, keys)?
We have dedicated HW peripherals to speed up cryptograpic methods. ARM Trustzone CryptoCell 310 - https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fps_nrf9160%2Fcryptocell.html&cp=2_0_0_5_0 We also provide a lot of cryptograpic samples in our nRF Connect SDK so it is possible for customers to benchmark and test out the performance them selves. Samples: http://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/samples/samples_crypto.html
Can it be woken up over the air to start running a position fix to report its location?
Absolutely. E.g. The modem can be in RRC IDLE mode and be running eDRX intervals checking the network for any wake up signals. More details here: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Low-power-cellular-IoT/What-is-cellular-IoT?lang=en#infotabs
Is there a good way to work out what coverage there is for a country (e.g. UK) and what carrier would be suitable?
Recommendation is to contact the carriers themselves. Many carriers provide online coverage maps. Another suggestion is to contact your Reginal Sales Manager (RSM), and if you do not know who that is you can reach out to us on: https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/
Can you cover briefly how encasement impacts signal strength and accuracy? nRF Cloud provides services to update Assisted GPS data?
If the encasement impacts the GPS signal strength you can expect longer TTFF for the GPS to actually get a fix from the surrounding satellites. The more sattelites, the better accuracy. You can also configure in the FW to trade off accuracy with faster TTFF, which also impacts power consumption. So for GPS spesifically we recommend great antenna design to have the best possible starting point -> we have a White paper on this: https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/nwp_033/WP/nwp_033/nwp_033_intro.html
nRF Cloud provides services to update Assisted GPS data? If there is any cost associated with that service? Does A-GPS data depend on the location of the device or is it valid worldwide?
nRF Cloud provides location services and Assisted GPS is one of the features we provide. More information here: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Cloud-services#infotabs There is a cost for this service, but this is very competitive compared to similar services on the market, and I recommend to reach out to your local Reginal Sales Manager to discuss more details around this. The Assisted GPS data can be recieved all around the world.
Why downloded GPS data helps for fast position fix for nRF9160?
Assisted GPS helps faster TTFF since you download the sattelite data over the LTE network (much faster) than the Sattelites themselves (very slow). That means that you do not need to have the GPS on for a long time to acuire a fix. We are talking minutes compared to seconds when using A-GPS. This is a huge power saver.
Could the thingy91 receive RTK corrections through some NTRIP server?
We do not support this feature at the moment.
Can I use this module for tinyml?
Yes. We also have a tight integration with Edge Impulse studio with several Samples in our nRF Connect SDK that can help you speed up development. nRF Machine Learning application: http://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/applications/machine_learning/README.html
Is nrf9160 required external wired antenna for LTE or GPS or it can run smoothly with patch antenna on PCB too?
The nRF9160 only require a single 50 Ω antenna interface. I would recommend checking out our nRF9160 DK and our Thingy:91 and the reference design for these products on how you can desing this on your product. We also have a white paper around this: https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fnwp_033%2FWP%2Fnwp_033%2Fnwp_033_intro.html&cp=2_0_7_4
