To date, the Internet of Things has been a diffuse term used in many different contexts. The IoT requires a new network architecture that can accommodate enormous scale in harsh and highly constrained environments, scalable network and data management, analytical capabilities, and security. In this session, JP Vasseur, Chief Architect for the IoT Group at Cisco and Cisco Fellow, will provide an short overview of the IoT architecture and its protocols. Dr Vasseur, 45, is a Cisco Fellow and Chief Architect of the Internet of Things at Cisco. He has been working on a number of networking technologies such as IP/MPLS, Quality of Services, Traffic Engineering, network recovery and “The Internet of Things” since he joined Cisco in 1998. From 1992 to 1998, he worked for several Service Providers in large multi-protocol environments. He is an active member of the Internet Engineering Task Force (co-author of more than 35 IETF RFCs) where he serves as a co-chair of the IETF PCE (Path Computation Element) and the ROLL (Routing Over Low power and Lossy networks (ROLL) Working Groups. JP is leading a group in charge of advanced networking technologies, he works on new advanced developments and is also involved in several standardization bodies (IEEE, ITU) for the specifications of low power technologies for the Internet of Things. JP is a regular speaker at various international conferences, he is involved in various research projects in the area of IP/Sensor Networks/Internet of Things and the member of a number of Technical Program Committees. JP Vasseur is also Associate Professor at Telecom Paris. He is the (co)inventor of more than 300 patents in the area of IP/MPLS and Sensor Networks. JP received an engineering degree in Computer Science (France), a Master of Science in Computer Science (Steven - USA) and PhD in Networking (Mines-Telecom Paris – France).
