Poll: What Kind of Software Online Courses Are You Interested In?

Element14 is by an large a hardware design community. But one cannot design hardware most of the time without considering the software side of the solution. Hence, I would like to get some input from members on their interests in online classes in the area of software. I've listed some basic categories below. But in the Comments section, please add anything you are specifically interested in. Thanks.

    Hi,

It would also be interested to learn to develop sensor libraries.

Let me give you an example, there is a very famous sensor called BME280 from Bosch. It has many libraries for interface with C++ coding. It is sometimes very difficult to understand the functionality of entire library with many files containing class, data-structures, macros etc.

It would make sense to learn such development.

CircuitPython seems to be an up and coming variant that I will want to get into.

The more intros, beginner, intermediate, advanced tutorials and especially examples the better.

I agree, having just completed an Introduction to Python course I realised there must be more to Python that this. I have not yet heard of decorations in the context of Python - is it a thing?

This suggestion applies to all of the poll options. There is already a glut of "getting started" type content that exists for most languages, platforms, or technologies. While there should be an introduction aspect that makes sure everyone is on the same page, I would like to see more of the "stage 2" education.

For example, for Python, what are decorations? What are the best practices for creating a module? How do you package something for pip? Maybe even looking at popular modules like NumPy.

I recognize "getting started" and "introduction" content tends to draw a wider audience. I think going one step further would result in higher-value content.

That said, as other suggestion, more learning is good, no matter what.

"...it seems I have to learn much more to do really useful things..."

Jessica McKellar has a couple of very good Python video courses on Safari Books Online.

Introduction to Python - O'Reilly Media

Intermediate Python Programming - O'Reilly Media

(There is a cut-down version of it on YouTube which she ran at PyCon one year

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MirG-vJOg04 )

David Beazley has an excellent Python video course on Safari Books Online,

Python Programming Language - O'Reilly Media

which continues on nicely from Jessica's courses and takes you deep into the language.

Probably a bit obscure for this community, but I've been after an on-line course (or series of courses) based around  measurement and survey techniques for 3D modelling in CAD packages.

It sounds easy but I find it hard to 'capture the essence' of a real world space or object in the 3D model. Frequently run into the problems of nothing ever being straight in the real world and reducing the detail overload down to just the right amount.
