MicroBit Brained Robots

I made a few Microbit Robots for the local library coding class. This one was printed from scratch.
we started with just rf remote control but I plan to add line following sensors.

These two used commercially available chassis.

They all use a homemade dual motor driver I had posted on Instructables years ago.
I originally designed it for CNC use but it works better in a bot. I used old Toshiba 8080 H bridge drivers.
The first controllers used the accelerometer for steering.
Later I turned this old yard sale find N64 controller into a microbit host.

The board is a perfect fit

Hi korn - they look very impressive . Did you code the micro:bits using makecode or did you need to drop down to a lower level Neil

Thanks, I did use Makecode. I used it alone at first. just as a quick test of the h bridge but For the actual library classes I added a custom.ts file with blocks defined similar to the KITRONIK motor…

Thanks, I did use Makecode. I used it alone at first. just as a quick test of the h bridge but For the actual library classes I added a custom.ts file with blocks defined similar to the KITRONIK motor controller blocks...

That way anyone who wanted to continue on their own could buy the KITRONIK kit and continue on their way using the same programs. I think the only real difference is the toshiba chips I used allow braking so I had two extra blocks....

It wasn't strictly necessary to go the javascript route to do the bit twiddling but I wanted to offer an easy upgrade path to a commercial kit.
