Parallax Cyber:bot for Micro:bit Preview Webinar

24 Jan 2019

So, Parallax is collaborating with the National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center to create a cyber:bot using the BBC micro:bit and the Parallax Boe-Bot chassis.  Since this is using the micro:bit, MicroPython is used to program the bot in Python.   This will be a great educational tool to teach both programming and robotics.

On Jan 24, 2019 2:00 PM in Pacific Time (US and Canada) Parallax will hold a Webinar showing a preview of the cyber:bot.

Follow the link below if interested in the Webinar.

Regarding missing this, I noticed with some of my posts that they do not show up on the Recent list on the main element14 page and I am not sure why. So, unless you were looking for something specific with micro:bit and/or Parallax you might not see this.

Yes, it was a pretty good Webinar held by Ken Gracey from Parallax and Dr. Chuck Gardner and Tommy Gober from NICERC.  The kit will be available to the general public in March and they will offer both a complete Boe-Bot kit with the cyber:bot board as well as the cyber:bot board separately.

Sorry the link you provided did not work but this should.

What I did find interesting is that they are using a Parallax Propeller MCU as the interface with the GPIOs so this ends up being a a way to program using the Propeller from Python through the micro:bit.   The A/D on the board does come directly from the micro:bit though.

This is really geared toward educators at the middle school and elementary level, but I have seen an instance where a University is using the micro:bit to teach computer science courses so there is no real limit where it can be used.  The main focus is on exposing the younger generation to the concepts of Cyber Security to help prepare them for this field later in their educational pursuits.

I did suggest they look at offering this as a Road Test with element14 so well see if it pops up.  I have a number of Boe-Bot chassis so I would be looking to get the board, but may just get the complete kit just to have the faster servos.  Parallax is just a few miles from me so I can pop over there when I get a chance; I think they still have a pick-up option.

so all was not lost. It has some interesting content, especially if you are in to micro:bit. I'm having a think about doing something with the micro:bit but I'm not sure what yet. Probably some sort of (mobile) robot.
