As the exclusive manufacturer of the BBC micro:bit, Farnell element14 has access to a wide variety of kits and accessories, designed to expand the possibilities of what can be achieved using the micro:bit and provide a richer, more engaging learning experience for students.

With new micro:bit accessories hitting the market all the time, we're looking for classroom teachers and STEM ambassadors to road test some of these products and provide detailed feedback on their effectiveness and usability. Successful applicants will be provided with a selection of micro:bit-related products, free of charge, on the understanding that you will contribute a thorough 'Road Test Review' documenting your experiences with the product and how you applied it to your classroom teaching.

Once you have completed your review, the products are yours to keep. Applications will be screened by the element14 team and selected according to product availability and relevant experience of the applicant. You can apply for as many road test reviews as you like, and with the popularity of the micro:bit popularity growing all the time, there's no shortage of exciting project and development kits for you and your pupils to try out!

If you'd like to be considered for micro:bit road test reviews, please leave a comment under this post detailing your experience as a teacher or STEM ambassador, or send an email to jlucas@premierfarnell.com.

Hi, My name is Darek, and I'm a software engineer with 7 years of experience.

My goal is to share experience with teenagers and kids so that they can go to certain level of programming skills quickly.

Micro:bit which I discovered this year(2018) sounds like a great alternative to Scratch and Arduino as it's simple and rich at the same time and can be extended with moto:bit modules for example. It will make lessons interesting and engaging for my students. Any feedback on my lessons I'll let you know.

I believe that running code club in Pila, a small town in Poland would make sense as well. I hope that the local market will benefit from this initiative.

I am interested in participating in road testing micro:bit kits and accessories. I am a Technology Integrator for the Cornwall School District in Orange County, New York, in the USA.  We currently do not have any physical computing kit accessories like Microbit or Arduino. We are looking to equip this type of coding and computing in our art classes so that the students can combine technology and coding with their art.

This is an exciting opportunity and we would be very grateful to be a part of it!

I would like to be considered for micro:bit road test reviews. I have been teaching technology education for the past 20 years. First as a digital communications teacher and currently as a computer science/STEM/technology integrator. I have used micro:bit in the past in class and for presentations to my staff.

Currently I am teaching at the Graham School in Hastings on Hudson in New York. This is a struggling population of students. My goal is to give them as much empowerment and engagement as possible. These students may not have the fast track to higher education and I have made it a point to give them experiences with coding and tech that will allow them to prevail with or without a college degree. We would be so grateful to have these kits at our school and I would be honored to share my student's journey of discovery with the micro:bit.

I look forward to hearing from you and sharing in the wonder of innovation!

    Hi

I work at the school which is transforming towards skill development along with the regular curriculum.

We have mblocks and scratch based class for grades 1-4, Arduino and Raspberry Pi has been introduced to grades 5-8.

This would be an addition to development at the same time we teachers would give a review of the micro:bit kit tested for the different grades of student.

    Thank you

    Ramnath Bhat

    Hi,

Very pleased to hear that Farnell element14 has become the exclusive manufacturer for the BBC micro:bit microcontroller and accessories & kits, that expand the possibility of using the hardware platform in education.

I just found out about the road test reviews the platform is providing and I, along with my colleagues from our NGO, would like to be involved in this, as well.

We organize monthly workshops on programming, starting with web development to embedded projects. The children involved in the activities are on a scale age from 8 to 18, come from the local community/ city (Iasi, Romania) and also from the nearby cities, as there are no other opportunities for some of them to learn these skills.

We are keeping this workshops for more than 4 years, starting with July 2014 and until now we managed to get quite a presence and recognition in the community. We helped other communities shape, as well, on our free education base workshop system and we will try to keep things going in this direction for as much as we can.

In the embedded workshops that we organize we pretty much use Arduino and a lot of extensions, sensors and we also managed to create Arduino extension two-three boards on our own, for better organizing the projects for children and their needs.

Some of our activities can be seen on https://www.facebook.com/coderdojoiasi/ or at https://www.coderdojoiasi.ro/.

Good luck with all the upcoming projects.

    Alex
