Over 200 of the best minds will soon converge at the new Argonne National Laboratory Energy Sciences Building just a step outside Chicago to research and invent new technologies to address the world's energy challenges. The future research team will represent many different backgrounds, from nano-science to materials engineering. They hope the free exchange of ideas will spawn the next big revolution. Some of the preliminary goals is to create a battery that can give the 400 mile EV, a 50% improvement of combustion engines, and can fuels be created from sunlight, water, and CO2 according to Argonne Director Eric Isaacs. The $95 million USD Energy Science Building is currently being constructed and has a projected 2013 completion date. Along the way, 2,000 jobs will be created from construction alone on top of the eventual 200.

This facility, like Argonne as it sits now, will also work closely with partner companies and universities in its effort to foster the USA's scientific leadership in energy. The facility is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, and their secretary Steven Chu sums up the mission perfectly. "I envision a future where research and products are invented in America, made in America and so worldwide."

It is not too late to vie for one of the 200 spots at the Energy Science Building. Start inventing, start learning, start changing to world. No pressure.

I hope that they also include some experience engineers to look at the ideas as well.  Sometimes a close enough solution gets lost because the scientists can't see how to make it work.  Engineers could really help focus their ideas towards buildable solutions.

I envy Chicago the opportunity they will have with this facility near by.

    Thanks

Engineers will definitely be at the location. They want to create an environment with every practice under one roof. I'm sure we will see some great things from this place.
