KiCad and the Autorouter

You may have heard the saying "never trust the auto-router" or even seen it written on a t-shirt! KiCAD doesn't have an auto-router If you can use an auto-router with KiCad can you trust it in your #Arduino, #Electronics or #RaspberryPi projects, or commercial projects?

"There is no information on what will happen to the copyright of the material when I upload it to the element 14 sites"

We specify this in the terms, this is what it currently states at the time of writing this reply:

    "Content that you contribute:

We do not claim ownership of any content you contribute to element14 but by posting your content you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free right and licence to use, display, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, process, publish, distribute, transmit, host on our servers and resell/sell/rent any such content.  You confirm that you have all the necessary rights and consents to enable you to grant us this licence.

It is your own responsibility to protect any intellectual property or other rights existing in any content you contribute to element14 and to ensure you have the necessary rights, licences and consents (including from employers) to contribute such content to element14.

By contributing content to a public area of element14 or by choosing to collaborate with another user, the content you contribute or disclose will be available to others and we have no control over how they may use that content or the rights that they may obtain over that content. It is your responsibility to apply any controls you believe to be necessary over the use and rights to such content."

You'll also get the advantage of better editor capability than Wordpress. (although admittedly too much functionality buried in the editor menu rather than as a toolbar). I couldn't zoom in to peek at the detail in the images on the website, because some are not clickable, whereas here it's possible to upload any resolution (I don't think there is any practical limit) so people get to see in as much detail as desired. Another advantage is that blog posts that may have been written almost 10 years ago, because they were uploaded as high-res images back when 1024x768 was typical monitor resolution, are still viewable now even on 4k etc monitors. Example blog post from 2013, every image is zoomable to high-res in 2022: /products/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi_projects/b/blog/posts/raspberry-pi-enabled-christmas-lights

Mostly people post on E14 because they want to share. The terms and conditions make it quite clear that E14 can share stuff pretty much any way they like but they don't own your copyright.

You'll have to choose, reach a wider audience, or or keep close control over your content.

If your intention is professional reputation building or paying back into the wider community, then either end is probably better served by the widest distribution .

It's your choice - but don't expect to publish on other websites without giving up something.

There is quite a bit of useful Kicad content on E14 already - it would be nice for yours to be there as well.

There is no information on what will happen to the copyright of the material when I upload it to the element 14 sites, and there is no way for the site to automatically pull in from my RSS feed.

Better Syndication would be helpful, if people want to find out what I have written it is available at https://philipmcgaw.com/never-trust-the-autorouter/
