What's a good snack?

cstanton
cstanton over 4 years ago

The supermarkets here in the UK are filled with clementines, and for some reason I can't get enough of them, seriously, I have a pile of 5-6 bags of them and... they're gone in a couple of days, something about that sweet tangyness flavour that just hits the spot right now.

For some there're different categories of snacks:

- Sweet

- Sour

- Savoury

- Umami

- Sugary

- Gooey

- Salty

- Cold

- Hot

For a sweet snack, I gravitate towards Terrys Dark Chocolate Orange... (there may be a theme here), sour is usually Haribo Tangfastics! Savoury, something like Doritos, and sugary I haven't really touched on sugary for a long while, but in my advent calendar I'm getting Haribo so that counts, right?

Gooey can't beat a good soft cookie though.

What do you like?

I have been a recovering diabetic for most of my adult life. When diagnosed, the doctor wanted me to inject insulin. I discussed this with the nutritionist that had sent me to the doctor to have my blood…

I made some buns last night, more of a meal than a snack. Granary flour, yeast, salt, milk, eggs, butter, sugar dried fruit, mixed spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Best eaten toasted and buttered. MK

    Hi Christopher,

This is absolutelly my current preferred chips (see below). First, I was skeptical about the vinager, but then it was just perfect. Toward the sweeeet Haribo can't go wrong and I love them, a single handful is never enough!

The advent calender is new thing in my life, just now in November, it was the first time I heard about it. I want it to buy a Zotter (https://www.zotter.at/ ) advent calender(see below) to some friends but the lockdown closed the stores. I really recommend these chocolates  if you can find in UK

We like to eat Karakollen  - sea snails, cooked with vegetables and spices.

(English name: periwinkle - we live at the same sea image)

Mostly in the winter when it 's freezing, or any time of the year when there's a fancy fair.

    Delicious.

Taste and texture: Savoury / Gooey

Hmm, looks like Zotter may be imported by some chocolatiers in the uk! I hadn't heard of them before. This prompts investigation... have you tried Disco crisps/chips? They're super salt and vinegary, when I want something salty, I head for those typically.

Ah yes, periwinkles! I come from a seaside town and we'd often see these being sold fresh from the North Sea ! What spices are good with them?

We cook them in a big kettle of  onion, celery, sometimes leek soup.

Add pepper and (easy here, young grasshopper) a few tiny chili peppers.

    "...Terrys Dark Chocolate Orange..."

A yes, what is it now ?

'tap it / unwrap it / enjoy it' ?

What preferred tool do you use to 'tap it' with ?

Uh, I love those. My preferred tool is a desk. I whack the ball on the surface until it feels wobbly.

And sometimes I eat the wedges together with sour creme and onion potato chips. You know, sweet and salty.

I have lived in many places and snack on these things at odd intervals during the day:  a banana, hummus, nori, dark 80%+ chocolate, hard boiled egg, mixed roasted nuts. I eat apples in season, sometimes an orange. The list seems quite strange now that I have written it down.

I've different levels of snacking depending on how careful I'm dieting !

My choices range from clementines as you suggest to the less healthy cream crackers+butter+cheese.

I've just realised I'm hungry now image
