What's a good snack?

cstanton
cstanton over 5 years ago

The supermarkets here in the UK are filled with clementines, and for some reason I can't get enough of them, seriously, I have a pile of 5-6 bags of them and... they're gone in a couple of days, something about that sweet tangyness flavour that just hits the spot right now.

For some there're different categories of snacks:

- Sweet

- Sour

- Savoury

- Umami

- Sugary

- Gooey

- Salty

- Cold

- Hot

For a sweet snack, I gravitate towards Terrys Dark Chocolate Orange... (there may be a theme here), sour is usually Haribo Tangfastics! Savoury, something like Doritos, and sugary I haven't really touched on sugary for a long while, but in my advent calendar I'm getting Haribo so that counts, right?

Gooey can't beat a good soft cookie though.

What do you like?

The device shown is used as a sound reference for acoustic measurements in buildings.

The joke surrounding the Terry's chocolate orange is that it used to be advertised as "just tap it, and unwrap it"

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XzJuAgpfQA

whereas in reality after storage and transportation or just reduced quality control, it was less break apart segments and more solid chocolate ball by the time you ever received it, and it became something of a challenge to break apart to eat.

It therefore later featured in spoof adverts with different techniques, usually Heath Robinson/Rube Goldberg Machine contraptions to break it apart.

I love good chocolate first would be Godiva Truffles (when I can afford them (LOL) imagethe next would be Green&Black Dark Chocolate, sometimes I'll do York Peppermint Pattie. or even a chunk of good hard cheese.

I love all those Dr Coys chocolate bars - favourite would be Vanilla crisp, but close behind is mint, coconut, & orange.

Wow quite a few biltong lovers! It's even better when you make it yourself... it's a great little DIY project requiring a wooden/plastic/cardboard? box, a computer fan and/or a light (to dry things out). Then add in temperature and humidity sensors + fan/light control, just because we can...

    2 times hoorah

I like biltong too. Worked in Johannesburg.

I work for the company that owns Walkers. Happy to see it's liked.

Once you find a good beef biltong it's like you've found one of the best snacks around, right? Kettle chips just have that satisfying crunch, too.

Chocolate covered cranberries, that drcoys site is dangerous, what do you tend to order from there?

Got a cheap 'eBay special' dehydrator for my filament about 2 months ago (just after I started getting print issues).

Cost a whole £30 - it's ok, almost hits the max temp of 70 deg C - (actually tops out at 60) but doesn't actually need to go that high for filament.

Did dry some orange peel for grinding into a face scrub, and my mother-in-law took a bit I was showing her and just shoved it into her mouth!!

Ah tis the season for snacking and at the moment you just cannot beat a good Christmas mince pie, followed by range of cheeses with some crackers.

Otherwise I've been on the quest to find the best ready-salted crisp. We're not talking about Walkers (UK) or Tayto's (Ireland) or those other wafer thin types you find in a French or European Hyperstore. We are talking about those Kettle salted crisps and actually Tesco's Finest Salted have been top of my list so far (I'm so nerdy that I even check the potato variety as there are 4 types used and some are better than others).

Then for savoury or spicy it has to be a good Bombay mix with some sweetness and plenty of chilly. For a hot snack I just love a good samoosa. If purchasing from a shop/restaurant then you cannot beat good sushi or some lovely dim sum treats.

If I'm after a protein based snack then beef biltong is top of my list (sorry beef jerky is just too sweet for my liking).

Occasionally I have a sweet tooth but I found that chocolate bars are lethal with all that sugar. Thankfully, I found this little local gem to keep me happy... https://www.drcoys.ie/
