You Know You're an Engineer When...

wpolk
wpolk over 10 years ago

We're asking you to complete this sentence: "You know you're an engineer when..."

Your input could be featured in an upcoming article on ImAnEngineer.com, Newark element14's newly launched website celebrating the ingenuity and impact of engineers!

We'll be choosing three of the most insightful and entertaining responses to send a much-sought-after bag of element14 swag to, between now and the end of July (don't worry if you're post is already in, we'll still consider it as an entry). T's & C's are here, and remember that you can drive the competition by casting votes for your favorite entries using the "Like" button on each post.

To bag your swag:

Step 1: Think deeply about the kind of traits that you feel typify the engineer's personality (and then check out the obligatory terms and conditions for the comp).

Step 2: Register, log in and comment on this discussion to tell the world about your favorite engineering personality quirks/disorders/idiosyncrasies.

Step 3: Make yourself a coffee and spend an enjoyable hour picking out the inspired (mostly hilarious) insights into your engineering identity, and hit the "Like" button on those that really resonate.

... you wonder how Sheldon Cooper can do what he does and still can retain friends ..... because you have tried it and it didn't work.

Sheldon has many friends and, as I like to refer to them, caretakers. Engineers have them too, but their focus on the primary issue tends to be so great, the subtleties of these engagements eludes them (like Sheldon). You probably have a small circle of very close associates that help with the play we call... um, what is it exactly we call what we do? image

Actually... Sheldon did mention why he doesn't want to be sent anywhere by a transporter... and, you''re right I do think that would make a good hat project for Pi, probably need the power of the Pi2 though.

I suspect cstanton has a desheldocombobulator in his desk drawers if you ask him nicely. That'll help.

You're absolutely right! In attempting to measure your own Sheldon-ness, you affect the results because it's such an inherently Sheldon-ey thing to do.

What you need is a Heisenberg Compensator, like they have in the Enterprise's transporters, which filters out Sheldon-like behaviours so you can properly test for Sheldon-icity without borking the data.

Let's call it a Desheldonator, and get to work on inventing it right away. I feel a Raspberry Pi project coming on...
