How Did You Celebrate National Engineer's Week?

nlarson
nlarson over 11 years ago

This week was National Engineer's Week in the United States - what did you do to celebrate?   National Engineer's Week started in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers that was created to recognize and celebrate engineers and their accomplishments.  A big THANK YOU to all of you engineers out there contributing to the progress in this industry around the world (and beyond! image)

If you're not in the United States how does your country celebrate engineers?

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well, DAB image  I really like your idea of celebrating by getting involved with the local schools - a whole new generation of engineers and innovation is coming and could use some great mentors like yourself for encouragement and guidance!

    Likewise here in NZ.

Unfortunately the engineering behind the infrastructure and the like is invisible.

We have the same at work (NZ ATC) where everyone recoginses the Controllers but as they point out its not possible without all the supporting fields.

I guess the old saying about the barking dog tends to apply to many industries, and sadly unless you're on the inside its not so obvious.

So well done Engineers (and the other supporting fields) the world over. image

Unfortunately engineers don't really seem to be celebrated in the UK.

An article has been published by the telegraph recently relating to this very situation.

Celebrate engineers over X Factor stars, says Professor Brian Cox - Telegraph

    Hi Nicole,

I was under the weather this week, but I did note that it was Engineers week.

I do not do anything unusual on this week, but I hope to get more involved with the local schools to help highlight both the week and the profession.

Engineering is one of those professions where you are just thrilled that people pay you to have fun with the latest toys available. image

Probably the best thing about being an engineer is that you can instantly see through marketing hype and help prevent others from buying things they do not need or want.

Granted, we are not people you take to movies as we always point out the obvious lack of science and engineering to do some of the special effects, but sometimes it is good to know the truth.image
