shared ground

so i wanted to make a universal power supply for my "pc room" and i wanted to do it with XLR, because it's round, it has sturdy cable's and it has three pins. So my plan was to have one 5v, one 12v pin, and one shared ground pin. but will this work? or wil it set my house on fire?

    XLR connectors are for audio and signal, using them for power makes expensive accidents more likely.

     

    There are many other connector types you could consider but if you NEVER use XLRs for anything else they would be OK.

     

    If you use the 4 pole XLR plugs and sockets accidents are less likely. The Neutrik ones are rated at 10A but cheaper ones don't quote a current rating.
