Help to source a motor

Hi and Help

 

Could anyone help in sourcing a motor.

 

We live in the UK. Some years ago my father was in the US and purchased an interesting clock.

It was made by Kinetico Studies in Arkansas please check out either gordonbradt.com or search 7 man clock on youtube

 

Unfortunately the driving motor/gearbox failed and the clock no longer works.

 

The motor manufacturer is Autotrol

The model number is 500

The variant is 0138

 

ie Autotrol 500-0138

 

This should relate to a motor spec of 230V synchronous with an output of 4 revs/min

 

Please note this is 4 rev/min when connected to the 60hz in the USA

This will give 3 1/3 in the UK but the clock has cleverly been regeared by Kinetico to operate correctly on the UK 50 Hz

 

Autotrol only sell 200off min quantity

Kinetico are service only no spares

 

My father is 85 and has terminal cancer and has expressed the wish to seeing the clock working once again

 

Obviously purchase, shipping and time can be compensated

 

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated

    Hello,

    I tried to search for this on Google and eBay and it seems to be so old and rare that it is not available.

    I see at least four options here:

     

    1) Let someone open your current motor chassis and try to fix the gearing / motor. The damage might not be irreparable.

    2) Regularly search on auction portals. (It might take a long time...)

    3) If you don't want to wait for some auction etc., one solution could be to buy a stepper motor with the same shaft diameter that is on your broken engine, so you can change the gear on the shaft. Making a motor driver that drives the motor with 3 1/3 RPM is definitely possible to make. (Of course, it won't have the original motor and power supply and there will be some electronic circuit needed to be hidden...)

    4) Order the repair at Kinetico, which seems to be $ 850 (their website says they have some engines). This might require additional power converter from 110 V 60 Hz to 230 V 50 Hz.
