How to @ reference a member?

Question

The ID system for referencing members is kind of neat, but how do you figure out what the handle is for the member you want to reference?

Am I missing something? Where is this information listed? Shouldn't this primary ID be shown on the user profile page?

It's in their URL. I typically hover over a user's name and check the url in the status bar at the bottom of my browser.

Hi Douglas,

Another way to find the handle is to use the full name, as you see it on the posts, etc..., and use the underscore to separate the firstname and the last name (i.e. @FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME). The underscore will perform a search using both words, bringing up the handle as result.

Hi dougw , All the ways listed above work. The way I almost always do it is to avoid the @ mention functionality entirely, and just copy and paste a member in. If you right click on a members name in a discussion and do "copy link address" or "copy link location", then just paste that into whatever you are writing, that also does an @mention. I find that a lot easier, although I almost always am responding - I very rarely start my own content. This may bias me in the way I do things Dudley.
