Want to make a mockup using a purchased capacitive sensor. I am wondering which board should I purchase that has the capability of connecting an external capacitive sensor to? Thanks.

    Hello,

you can use any PSoC that features CapSense. Many devices from PSoC 4 series, 5LP, 6 series. You can find specific part numbers using the product selector, just show CapSense and filter devices with CapSense present. http://www.cypress.com/products/microcontrollers-mcus#tab1

    For example PSoC 4 devices:

    http://www.cypress.com/search/psg/1297#/?_facetShow=ss_pcapsense,ss_pdedicated_adc_max_resolution_sample_rate_,fs_pno_of_continuous_time_blocks,fs_pno_of_op_amps,fs_pno_of_serial_communication_blocks,fs_pno_of_universal_digital_blocks,fs_pno_of_gpios,fs_pmin_operating_voltage_v_,fs_pmax_operating_voltage_v_,fs_pflash_kb_,fs_psram_kb_,fs_part_price&ss_pcapsense=Y

If I wanted to start with capacitive sensing, I would use one of the cheap evaluation boards with PSoC 4:

    http://www.cypress.com/documentation/development-kitsboards/cy8ckit-149-psoc-4100s-plus-prototyping-kit

    http://www.cypress.com/documentation/development-kitsboards/cy8ckit-145-40xx-psoc-4000s-capsense-prototyping-kit

    http://www.cypress.com/documentation/development-kitsboards/cy8ckit-044-psoc-4-m-series-pioneer-kit

There are many others, but these feature ready made buttons and sliders and Bluetooth with a ready made evaluation app for a mobile phone.

    One more thing:

Here is the cheapest board from Cypress, that features a PSoC 4 with CapSense. It costs only $4: http://www.cypress.com/documentation/development-kitsboards/psoc-4-cy8ckit-049-4xxx-prototyping-kits and Farnell has them commonly in stock: https://uk.farnell.com/cypress-semiconductor/cy8ckit-049-42xx/prototype-board-cy8c4245axi-483/dp/2420489

However, this kit doesn't have a full features programmer (KitProg), it has just a USB-serial converter and the device has a bootloader preprogrammed.

This one is $10 and has the programmer (and a bit better PSoC4): http://www.cypress.com/documentation/development-kitsboards/cy8ckit-043-psoc-4-m-series-prototyping-kit

Tip for general PSoC introduction: have a look at these short videos:

    http://www.cypress.com/training/psoc-101-video-tutorial-series-how-use-arm-cortex-m0-psoc-4-prototyping-kits

    and

    http://www.cypress.com/training/psoc-101-video-tutorial-series-how-use-arm-cortex-m0-based-psoc-4

It might give you an overview of PSoC development and CapSense examples.

    David

You can use the Cypress Semiconductor Capsense board, see road test reports by myself and Douglas Wong.

You can also use the PSOC line, which has integrated Capsense capability.

You can also use Texas Instruments MSP line, which have CapSense capability.

There are other Capsense capable development boards, but the two I name have very good hardware and software support documents.
