Searching for specific flat flexible cable, not easy task :-(

Hello I'm new to this forum so bear with me if I'm not in the right area posting this question.  I've been searching for a specific flat flexible cable that I didn't realize was going to be this complicated to find. I'm working on my Korg keyboard. I need flexible cable for a modified floppy drive adapter I'm installing. I've had no luck searching for one anywhere, and believe me I've looked everywhere. The specs I need are:

24 pin

1.25mm pitch

Contacts Opposite Sides of each other.

At least 14 inches long, no less.

I have checked this one site where I'm logged in at where I get quotes from different companies but it seems like they want a minimum order for a thousand cables match is way too many all I need is a few. Why are these cables so hard to find?

If anybody has any advice where I can pick up a few of these csbles like this I'd appreciate it ...thanks!,

Dog

Hi there a picture of the cable if it's still about will help failing that a picture of the two ends so folk can guess the connector type.

The 1.25mm pitch is just standard since that's what is used to connect to 2 rows of .1" pitch connector.

Normally you'd be looking at some 26way ribbon and two IDC connectors so to be more accurate you may be best to take that photo

Butch, with that FPC you quite often find that the cable is in fact the same way round but it has a fold made in to it to rotate it. Might be worth a check .....half of those connections are probably ground so you can meter them to see which is which!

If Molex do the right cable you can ask on their website for a sample.

John, that link you provided I checked it out. I set it for 24 pins but there is no 1.25mm pitch. also in your other post, I don't have a picture of it because I don't have the cable to take a picture of. that's why I'm looking to buy one. From what I understand in the PDF file that Mr. Wong posted link to, it looks  like I need a type D.  It goes from the korg x3 keyboard's motherboard to the floppy drive (which is a stock ffc). but since i replaced the stock floppy drive with a different drive that has a different type interface, I am using a custom made adapter but the cable isnt right. Hence why i need that specific cable specifications.

I understand, about the links. But I could take a few pics of both the drive in the connector on the keyboards motherboard . That would be an idea, but will be a few days off before I get back inside that keyboard to take a picture of it.  I just thought the specs I provided in my original post would be sufficient enough.

okay this is not my picture. But they're doing the same thing inside their Korg x3 keyboard. They're using an adapter as I am using an adapter but its not the same one. The one I have has the ffc connector that's just the opposite where the contacts are up instead of down. Hence why i need opposite side contacts..type d. You can see he is twisting thr cable, but dont go by that becuase in my case doing that will reverse the pin wiring.  Everything on the other end of cable is the korg board thats stock and i like to keep it that way.:-)

hello, I got an update for my situation here. :-)

First thing I did today is relace ALL the tact switches in my Korg x3. That worked even though it was a long job mostly becsuse I took my time. The hardest part was disassembly of all the boards and putting them all back together.  So many screws and wire connectors. Good thing  i took photos between each step of the disassembly process. It works like a charm as far as the tact switches go.

Now as far as the FFC cable i been asking about for the floppy drive. Seems like i was wrong about the specs. Since i am using an adapter to convert the korg 24pin ffc to a 34 pin idc connector on the usb floppy drive emulator i have installed, i first thought that the 24pin zif socket on the adapter had reversed pin wiring and thats why thought i needed a FFC with the end contacts on opposite sides.

I was wrong.  Looks like the stock FFC will work fine, its just s few inches to short to reach the adapter. Now i think the best bet is to extend the 34pin idc side , by getting a short 34pin idc ribbon extension, with male on one end and female on other. Now, as usual with my luck, I cant find one of them either. Yeah I know I am born with bad luck.  Looks like they seem to have to be custom made. image

All i need is one short cable bout 5 inches,  i hate to have to buy whole roll of ribbon, a bag of ends, BOTH male and female,  and crimping tool just for one short cable.  I appreciate if anyone knows where i can get one?   I thought it was going to be easier to get one of them instead of the ffc.  God i hope i am not going to have bad luck with that.  image   Thanks in advance!!
