To me there are simple guidelines for doing things for yourself.
A. It is easier to build that purchase.
B. You want the challenge of building it yourself.
C. You want a retro device that is not available anymore.
D. You need it now and cannot wait for a delivery.
I could go on, but it all depends upon the capabilities of the person and their interest in doing something verses just purchasing a tool.

my motivation is to create stuff I don´t find on shelves ,or produce it on my own in the way I want it to be.

I think I get the question. I think that we are well-served to ask the question a little differently. The market provides goods that are ready-made very efficiently nowadays. Why should one incur the overheads implied by fabing/repairing stuff for oneself?
I think the motive is to show off. Which is cool, I guess. . .
Hello John,
Thank you for the suggestion to attract more people into this!
Hi Ezra,
hypothesis
A tentative explanation for an observation, phenomenon, or scientific problem that can be tested by further investigation.
Something taken to be true for the purpose of argument or investigation; an assumption.
The antecedent of a conditional statement.
I think you have the beginnings of a very good question. Unfortunately the manner in which you have asked the question leaves, at least me, with little interest in spending my time composing an answer. Perhaps you can narrow the scope of your inquiry. By DIY do you mean people who pump their own gas, brush their own teeth, or some other activity that people do for themselves? You could possibly set up a Survey to get the opinions of other members of E-14. You will also get better response if you give some explanation for why you are seeking this information. Frame your question to a narrow enough subject area so that your question is well understood. I look forward to responding to your question if you are able to refine it.
