The Farnell Global YouTube Channel needs YOU!

As our community continues to grow, we are aiming to show off just how amazing our members are. One way of doing that is using our platform to shine light on user-made content. We have a whole host of how-to articles on our transactional sites that we feel could use a little more of a personal touch.

We’d like for you, our community, to put your own spin on the topics we’ve listed below. Is there something we missed? Is there something that requires a bit more context? Record a quick 1-5min video and show us how you would present these topics. These videos can be structured however you like, some suggestions would be a product-demo, white-board presentation, or even a Q&A. Don’t like our topics or have a better idea you’d like to present? Great! Tell us your ideas in the comments and let us know if you’d like to volunteer!

Topics we’ve done:

How-to 8: How to use Labview on a Raspberry Pi

How-to 9: How to design multi-rail power supply using PMIC

How-to 16: How to Drive DC Motor with Smart Power ICs

We also like to share what our members make from things like this, and give them the credit deserved for it. It can lead onto a lot of good opportunities.

These "How-To" articles seem useful. But I am not quite sure what is being asked here. A 5 min video needs to have a fairly tight focus.

    Is the video supposed to:

    • cover the same topic as the article and explain "how to"?
    • promote the article and explain how the article is useful?
    • be like supplementary material with a slightly different twist on the subject?
    • delve into aspects not fully covered in the article?
    • be an endorsement of how the article was useful in solving a problem?
    • be a critique of the article, indicating how it might be better?
    • be a synopsis of some peripheral project where this topic was applied?

How would the video be used? Where would it be posted/linked? How would it be introduced?

Hi Doug. We are trying to create educational content that would be helpful to engineers and \or enthusiasts.  We started with our own content thinking that some of it could be turned into an educational video. This may have been our first idea, but perhaps not the best. :)  We like to highlight our members skill sets and wanted to promote these videos over social, community and YouTube to help bring in new members as well. Your questions have made us realize we need to go back to the drawing board a bit and think through topics and be more specific on the ask.  We have asked for feedback recently on what members are interested in for essentials and other types of content. Maybe some of this feedback can be used for this idea as well.   Hope that clarifies some things and more to come on this.  If you have any feedback on a better way to do this, we are always open to ideas.

    Thanks as always,

    Dianne

This sounds like something that would be good for the web site. The main issue will likely be motivation to create content. One method might be to add it as a criterion in each design challenge, especially the "Experimenting With ..." challenges or road tests. The contestants would need to create a 5 minute educational video on some aspect of the challenge. This is probably only a slight change in focus for that video from what they are doing for the challenge already. It could even be an optional part of Project 14 contests if there was say a separate small annual award for the top 3 educational videos of the year or even just appropriate badges.

For example the Project14 I did on logic wasn't far from being a educational series of videos, it just wasn't following a format and it wasn't on one of the topics above.
