How many bookcases are there in your home?

How often do you get a book from a bookcase in your home?

I like books, but they are definitely declining in my life. I seem to acquire a book, read it and then just store it, I don't tend to re-read them.

I have 11 bookcases with a total of 52 shelves, but only about half are used for books. It is not a pleasant thought to think I really don't need any bookcases.

I also do a lot of online reading and I have a kindle and a Kobo.

Have you gone paperless?

Have you switched entirely to video?

How many minutes a day do you listen to a radio?

How often do you touch your smart phone in a day?

Do you watch more video on your smart phone than your TV?

Do you have a landline?

Do you still read newspapers?

Does all your content now come from the Internet?

My kids would answer all of these questions very differently from me.

I am trying to get some insight into how changing demographics will dictate what will be popular on this forum.

Every room apart from the bathroom. There are also books on a shelf in the upstairs corridor. Probably not as many books as real book enthusiasts though, and I think you may have a lot more (I have maybe…

I love books, but physical books have the weakness of not being searchable. In my old age, the ability to retrieve information has made even eBooks secondary to searches on the internet. Unfortunately…

There are only 2 or 3 books I regularly use as references.  One is a book on Python that I bought some time ago to learn the language.  Now that I'm familiar with the basics I seldom use it and do searches online to answer questions.  The other two are books on electronics with "The Art of Electronics" being the most used.

I rarely read a book twice and I'm down to one bookcase now having donated most of my books.  Currently I'm brushing up on my Spanish but am using an iPad instead of books.  I'm essentially paperless, and pay bills online or have automatic deduction from an account.  I don't use cash and only write checks once or twice a year.  The one exception with paper is that I still use it to sketch and make quick notes as I work.

I watch video but prefer written text for technical matters.  I pretty much only listen to radio when in my car.  I more often listen to internet music.  I use my smart phone less than most I suspect, but still use it a lot.  I often think of things while out for my walk and will do a search on my phone or make a note on it.  Funny, I don't use the phone to make many phone calls - I more often send emails or text messages with it.  I don't watch TV at all.  I don't have a landline and I don't read newspapers anymore.  All my news comes from the internet.

That's an issue I have as well, I've not found a solution that replaces the paper notepad for sketching and quick notes. There are some close contenders but a lot tie you to a smart phone or to a subscription based service.

I'm the same way.  I've tried pen pads and touch pads but nothing beats a 0.7mm mechanical pencil for quick notes and a set of colored wooden pencils for sketches.
