Eagle .. Adding a SOIC 8 PIN

rac1305

Hello

Im trying to make two small PCBs that has just the one on each, an 8 pin chip.

Ive search around on Google and answers range from searching for Soic , S008 , soic8pin and so on. But im yet to find anything in Eagle itself.

Can any one help me please.

( Ive only used Eagle in very basic ways )

Many Thanks

Rich

That's a very vague problem, you have not specified precisely what your issue is with respect to your goal. It's also a very basic task that could be done quite easily if you follow the EAGLE user manual, which is very good. I think you need to spend some time studying it, and a couple of days using EAGLE, it won't take long.

Start by searching for the part number that you want to use.  This could bring up an appropriate model for the board that you want to build.

There are a lot of good tutorials (here and elsewhere) that can guide you through this process.

If you can not find the part on your copy of eagle, you can try searching the web for an eagle library for that part.  You can download the library and copy it into lbr directory under the eagle directory.

If you can not find a part on the web, you have two choices, find a package in an existing library or build your own.

Eagle's concept of libraries combine the package (like SOIC8) with the schematic element (Symbol - likely specified to the chips function) along with a connection list.  The elements in the library are then labeled with the chips part number.  You search the library for a package by using the View-Search in Tree menu command.  This brings up a Search bar at the bottom of the display.  Here you can enter the package type, SOIC8 to find a suitable package (keep in mind that there are multiple type SOIC, narrow and wide).  Once you find what you are looking for, you can copy the package and paste it into a new library.  Then you can create your symbol and connect them all together into an library file.

    Good luck!

Eagle has many parts in its libraries that have 8 pins DIP, SIOC, S008 etc. The footprints are found in the "Package" tab of each library.

For example if you open the "Linear" library, many of the parts in that library will have 8 pins.

It is pretty easy to add these footprints to your layout and use them however you wish.
