How Important Are Unboxing Videos to You?

I could be wrong, but I got the feeling that there has been a drop off in unboxing videos. That's not to suggest unboxing videos are not created; I see them in roadtest reviews. But I'm thinking there are less of them as opposed to 3 or 4 years ago.

Perhaps it's because unboxing videos are best utilized for a development or eval board, and not for things such as discrete components.

I love to do unboxing and if I'm not able to record a video, I take pictures. Sometimes in the excitement of opening a package from e14 I just forget to click unboxing pictures. If the box contains something like eval boards, kits or finisher's prize, I usually take unboxing pictures. For discrete parts I prefer to click pictures of the parts directly, skipping the unboxing vids/pictures.

And yes I love to watch unboxing videos/pictures of other members as well

It depends on the quality of the video. I don't like it when someone is holding a phone in one hand taking video which is bouncing all over the place as they use the other hand to attack some packaging on a box that is sliding in and out of frame. I am not keen on unboxings taking large amounts of time while babbling on about nothing in particular either. Huge long flashy intro segments with snazzy graphical effects (beyond a few seconds) don't do anything for me. If the unboxing has good pace and is informative with researched nuggets of info, then yes unboxing videos can be great. When doing them myself I like to include some background about the company or the product or some non-obvious features.

I seem to recall this topic was exercised in a blog post. That may have been when the community was resident on the old site. As I recall it was not done as a poll at that time.

I chosen "Depends on What is Being Unboxed". I generaly do not consider unboxing videos/blogs important but sometimes I search for them. Usualy I search for them to check what is included in box contents. For exmaple in /products/roadtest/rt/roadtests/578/nordic_nrf9160_devel#pifragment-4100=4&pifragment-4106=9 I was interested if GPS antena is or not included as part of box. Vendor do not mention this in any documentation. In this case I ususaly search for unboxing video/blog.
