How Important Are Unboxing Videos to You?

I could be wrong, but I got the feeling that there has been a drop off in unboxing videos. That's not to suggest unboxing videos are not created; I see them in roadtest reviews. But I'm thinking there are less of them as opposed to 3 or 4 years ago. 

Perhaps it's because unboxing videos are best utilized for a development or eval board, and not for things such as discrete components.

  • It depends on the quality of the video. I don't like it when someone is holding a phone in one hand taking video which is bouncing all over the place as they use the other hand to attack some packaging on a box that is sliding in and out of frame. I am not keen on unboxings taking large amounts of time while babbling on about nothing in particular either. Huge long flashy intro segments with snazzy graphical effects (beyond a few seconds) don't do anything for me. If the unboxing has good pace and is informative with researched nuggets of info, then yes unboxing videos can be great. When doing them myself I like to include some background about the company or the product or some non-obvious features.
