Right to Repair "Fluke"

¡RIGHT TO REPAIR!

Norwegian representative would not sell me part…

I’m trying to repair a water damaged Fluke 179 and weird as it is, one of the contact’s on the inner rotary switch was broken of.
Tried to contact the Norwegian Representative for Fluke to get a new inner rotary switch, but the only answer I got was: "We do not sell this part for repair. But if you want to repair your meter we can do it for 3125NOK (285USD)… "
Why can’t I just buy a new inner switch???!!
 

Ok, I know Fluke want to maintain their quality and security by repairing their products. 
But when I buy a product, that’s now my product. And if I want to repair it myself I should be allowed to do that, and to buy the parts I need to accomplish this. 

Please comment what you think.

  • This is a difficult one. Right to repair usually tackles manufacturers that:

    • prevent you from getting reasonable info needed to repair something,
    • introduce hurdles that prevent you from replacing their part with an available identical part, 
    • block the device if a replacement is not installed by them or their co-conspirators Slight smile
    • forbid that independents can repair the device
    • or block your access to purchase a component they use. 

    It usually does not define at what granularity they have to provide replacement parts for in-house constructs. It also doesn't force them to provide every replacement part in its atomic form.

    Once they block you from fabricating a  fix for this defect yourself, you may have a case. If they say they don't stock/sell the atomized item, you typically don't have a case.

    Nope, I dont have much of a case. But I think its sad that I need to pay 285$ to change a part that I can do myself. Just pop it out and the new one in. The part itself is certainly no more than 50$. 
    Its a bit like you should pay the same amount to change a fuse in your meter.
