New clone on the block

While browsing for low cost EVBs, I noticed that some of the ADS1115 (4-channel 16-bit delta-sigma i2c adc) are being fitted with an IC marked ADX111A.

Which turns out to be at least on paper nearly identically to the ADS1115.

I'm not against competition. But the dark/dangerous side is when someone laser marks the chip as being TI's part, and sells it as a genuine TI part, when it most certainly isn't.

Glass half-full, glass half-empty....

Hold onto your hats boys and girls, this ADC is flying at a whopping 8 Sa/s... Applying a 1 Cycle/s test tone. Thanks ADI, neat demonstration and evaluation tool.

Tight squeeze for the 9V battery, but it should be okay...

It's a good thing I put half of my bits in a redundant ADC.

Thumbs down copying TIs datasheet practically word for word, but it looks like the test data is their own...

Skeptical I'll end up with a genuine TI part if I buy one of these

The ADS1115 has a following in the marker/hobbyist/student market because it is so easy to use...

It may be 2nd-source, allowed by TI?

(and is that Comic Sans in the datasheet?)

They don't use the same formula for VRMS and VPP.

Comic sans? where? It seems a bad copy of the Blippo font

That could be it, some of the typical graphs appear to be different as well. The market for this chip seems is similar to the ds18b20..

Naming convention shows that it is most probably very legendary chip originaly designed by ADI and not TI. But ADI most probably deprecated it. Note that TI sometimes do clones of the chip with the same name. Some other example: https://www.ti.com/product/MAX3232

You can give a try to ADS1115 but over the years I learnt that in this situation it is much easier to switch more modern chip which is not influenced by this kind of issues yet. Slight smile
