The internet says no.

Real brief, cant go into too much detail right now. I started a composite wood project, and asked the internet about some bio chemical processes regarding fibers and solvents, and a process I would use to simplify the process. A quick flurry of no, you cant do that, with some lengthy explanations about why what I'm doing is impossible.
lol, ok. Well today, I spoke with some engineers in a composite wood processing plant, and they were very impressed that my process is a mirror of their exact process for doing basically the same thing. Then i got a job offer. lol suck it internet.

In my career I have accomplished 4 things that everyone said were impossible. Some people don't particularly like it when they are proven wrong and don't provide praise, but they are happy to reap the…

Another lesson on why you have to be careful with what is available on the internet. Without proper vetting, you can run into a lot of false information. Getting a job offer indicates that you have…

I've screwed up in ways that no one thought was possible... I guess that's not quite the same thing though.

There does seem to be a plethora of "Can't be done" people on the Internet.  I call it the "'No' mindset".

I like the "'Yes' mindset".  "How about this?" and "It can also be done this way." are part of the "'Yes' mindset".  Solutions, not barriers.
e14 is full of "Yes" thinking people.  That's what makes this community so awesome.

I'd consider myself a bit of a "can't be done" (or "this is impractical" or "way too difficult") person. In particular when a starter wants to make a complex project.

More power to them if they do manage to achieve the goal.

Jan Cumps Based on what I've seen on the Community... I must humbly disagree. RelaxedThumbsup  You are helpful and encouraging.

    Try me Slight smile

I love to support, and to think along with ideas. It's the "wild ones" where I challenge. Even though a very motivated person may be able to do it (and a skilled person will be able to do it). (example? I want to build the best ever ADC with opamp, but I have no experience with ADC or opamp).
I don't fluff the pillows in that case Slight smile.

Also: if you have another wild idea that challenges current physics, and you are turned off by my critique, you aren't up to the battle ;).

Maybe it's a thing of my generation? Not everything merits a "this will work if you just believe in it hard enough"?
    Not in engineering.

Jan Cumps Relaxed  It certainly can be frustrating explaining that the immutable laws of physics do not bend to the will of anyone, no matter how special they think they are.  Maybe it is generational.  We never assumed that something didn't work because physics didn't like us. Joy
Fortunately, I am already seeing the pendulum swing back towards reality in the new technicians I teach. Thumbsup
