Raspberry Pi, Microsoft, and USB Flash Drives (memory devices).

Hi Guys, ElectronicBiker here, with a problem.

I have a PC, a RISC-PC, and several Raspberry Pi's. Sometimes I need to transfer files between a raspberry Pi and the PC, sometimes back again. The files are usually .TXT or .JPG. Taking a USB memory device out of a Raspberry Pi and plugging it into the PC generates a fault message with the recommendation that I allow windoze to scan and repair the device. I have to allow this to happen, so I do. Most of the time the memory device works on both the PC and the Pi, occasionally it cannot be repaired so windoze does something to it that makes it unusable on any machine.

I know that the Pi runs Linux, which started life some time in the 70's or 80's (I think), I also know that changes are made every so often. Unfortunately I also know that microsoft windoze is the global standard for unfathomable reasons. So why can't a version of the file handling software be created for Linux that works reliably on a windoze machine as well?

    I cannot remember the last time I used a USB memory stick with a Pi, but don't recall an issue; my daily desktop machine is a Windows PC. However, as mentioned by others, if your machines are connected, then it's much simpler usually to use the network. Many SSH clients will have SFTP capability built-in (or use command line). I use SecureCRT a lot, but it's paid software (but excellent, well worth it).

    Or, another free option,, just directly from PowerShell, you can use 'sftp'.
