Cleaning Up Bookmarks Comes at a Cost (Humor)

I hadn't thought about the points in our profiles for a while - so I took a look.  And I noticed a minus sign.

Revoked!  Laughing      I have the mental image of a basketball being swatted away from the rim.  DEE-nied!

Call me silly.  It made me chuckle.  I guess trying to be organized comes at a cost. Ha! Ha! Stuck out tongue winking eye

Another way to lose them is when a blog is converted to a forum. If any of your comments in the blog were liked, then they can end up getting revoked.

Easy come easy go I guess. On the bright side I guess we can cash out our points for bookmarks.

It's a little better than "Pat, I'd like to buy a vowel." At least I only lose the 5 points I got for creating the bookmark.

kmikemoo You can get neg numbers.. but you need a lot of haters out there. ie. Sounds like Stackoverflow.. some of the folks don't know what there doing but still get plus numbers.. (basically I don't trust it anymore) also while I'm on a roll I truly hate things that say: "We have 50k 5 Stars" but wait, there only reviews.. ~~ Cris H.

My brain wasn't fully operational earlier.  Now I understand that you initially gained 5 points for creating a bookmark.  Later these 5 points were taken away once you removed the bookmark during your 'clean up.'  I was envisioning a cruel world where bookmarks were costing us 5 points.  I guess I am jaded from DLCs and in-game purchases.

phoenixcomm  I get being distrustful of different rating systems.  There are a lot of number "out there" these days that I'm absolutely sure are pure fiction.
And... there was a time that I would "like" a comment just so I would know that I read it.  I'd say that I contributed to the fluff.  Sorry.

What is crazy is how effective the gamification of the point system was in getting me to make checking into e14 a part of my daily life.  I'm not really worried about gaining levels anymore (but there was a time) but I do feel empty if I haven't checked into e14 for a few days.  When I only have a few minutes to check in, I read the posts of those whom I recognize first.  I never really thought of it until now, but I never choose what to read based on how many views the post has - only by who posted it.

Ug!  Too many deep thoughts for something that was supposed to be funny. Relaxed

dang74 Accidently prophetic.  I like.  You were and are still correct. Relaxed

If it were possible to achieve a net minus five, I must admit that I would consider seeing how many points I could lose in a day - now.  There was a time where I would have never considered it.

I like the point system because it makes me laugh at myself.  The points really don't mean anything - but I can't just let it go either.  I think it's a quirk of the "fix it / make it better" mentality that plagues... well... all of us on the forum.  I could be as wrong as perpetual motion math... but maybe not. Joy

kmikemoo I really get it. But the points well yes in a way its a game.  One of my posts in the Warehouse series got a crap load of points. I like to look who gave me the like.. some new faces, that's always good, and then there is the cast that follows me. oh well life, goes on, at night after I sign off, in a few, I will have a dram of Scotch, with just one small chunk of ice. I will watch the tube and try and forget this crap, for a while at least. and maybe by midnight or so I will finally shut my eyes, for a few hours with my cats around me. (did you see Leo??, I put a comment and his pic, with the winners (cat goes to space) and I made a joke, really several) But what the hell very few folks here get my wit, or lack thereof. LTR ~~Cris H.. ps don't let the bedbugs bite...
