I think I have to give the nod to vise grips - I use them in even more egregious ways than the crescent wrench, but I am very happy that somebody invented them....

They should be sold as a set. Once you round the nut over with the Crescent hammer, Vise-Grips are the solution. 
I think the modern speed tape is now referred to as 600MPH tape.
Probably had to rename it for the jet age 
Here are some similar cutters....
"Where if you can tie with a wire, it's a shame to put a screw." It doesn't sound very well translated. 
And with a tool like this you can cut your nails.
And a more serious choice would be the DMM.
