Old CooCox Embedded Pi - What can I do with it?

Greetings from Switzerland! A first post, to see what happens...

I recently acquired a CooCox Embedded Pi (nice STM32F103 MCU) for almost nothing.

The box has element14.com written on it, so I ended up here.
But it seems that CooCox no longer exists (I did find their old github archive, though).

Should I bin it, or is it worth playing with? (Remembering that life is short ;-)

Anyone done any nice projects with it?

As much of a pack rat as I am... I'm going to recommend putting your energies into newer toys. I going to guess that this isn't your first foray into microcontrollers so unless it piques a nostalgic vein... let it go.

Hi kmikemoo. You are probably right! But I quite like the logic level translators on the CooCox board which allow it to work with 3.3V or 5V shields, nice for experimentation. And it has two sets of I/O pins - Arduino Standard + many of the other STM32F103 pins on parallel connectors. Other than that, the board is very similar to the STM32F103 Nucleo-64 board.
I managed to get it working with Visual Studio + Visual Micro with full debug support and also with the Arduino IDE, via an old ST-LINK/V2 box, but I had to make an SWD adapter for it (I mislaid the ST-LINK cables in the mists of time). The STM32 Arduino libraries for the "STM32F103 Generic" device seem to work too, with some minor adjustments for the pin numbering.

So maybe I won't bin it after all...

If anyone is interested I could make a post with all the details.

I'd certainly be intersted in a post detailing the process you came up with to get board up and running using Visual Studio, etc...

Excellent writeup Muman! I've dug my old embedded pi board out and will try your process to program them soon. I have a couple of other CooCox boards as well that I'll see if I can do something with while I'm at it.
