My days off are consumed with thinking about how to implement VLAN's in the company network I maintain.

Reviewed the theory. Have the knowledge. Lack the understanding. Former life had access to experience I could tap.

Well, you could always ask here, some of us have knowledge in this area.
For me, I got it once I admitted that it's a separation like the one you get physically different networks. It's all on the same cable, but there is one network interface per VLAN, so if you want traffic to go from one VLAN to the other, you have to use a router (layer 4) or layer 3 switch capable of VLAN to VLAN communication.

I tend to post networking type discussions in forums that are more focused. You can follow my journey at the MikroTik forum. https://forum.mikrotik.com/   I use the same alias on the site. I have started discussions here. Computer network design: Replacing the coffee-break napkin discussion. The audience is varied and response is limited.

I understand the theory of VLANs just never had to do an green field implementation. Nothing like real world experience to overcome not knowing what you don't know.
