What is your new year resolution?

embeddedguy
embeddedguy 14 days ago

As 2026 has arrived many of you may have a goal to achieve in 2026. It can be anything but as we are on element14 community let's discuss a skill or a new learning that you want to achieve in 2026.

For the year 2025 I had decided to start PCB making and I did so by making two PCBA designs. For the 2026, I plan to learn FPGA in detail.

What are your plans for 2026?

This year, I’m resolving to invest more time in 'mentorship' at home. My work situation has changed quite a bit recently, and I now work from home for a downsized international firm. Because I'm already…

I plan on learning how finish things. I have several long-term projects in the works, but I need to make some real headway on finishing some of these. My number one project is Outdoor Lighting - Light…

I plan to create some systems/devices from my bucket list and learn whatever I need to make them work.

I'm gonna improve my bare-metal programming skills starting with the 32-bit RA4M1. HDL's are kinda boring and I really need some change of flow.

I voted "others" because I expect to go on learning about everything, including analogue and power which you didn't offer.

My current project is a single cable remote control instrumentation interface which uses micro-controllers, FPGA, enhanced (non-standard) Power over Ethernet, and low latency communications over Gbit Ethernet Phy and cable (but custom protocols for deterministic low latency).

An upcoming project is  a calibration machine which requires the use of 3D CAD and some heavyweight steel fabrication (which I won't attempt myself).

Im auditing a python class at a community college, the ultimate goal to understand OpenCV enough to routinely built projects with object detection.

OpenCV? Hum, I tried it. It's good for image processing but not for pure ML tasks. Isn't it?

Also, for Some single board computers we have to build them using sources which takes time.

Pretty industrial. Isn't it? PoE that too self-made is cool.
