What is your new year resolution?

embeddedguy
embeddedguy 2 months ago

As 2026 has arrived many of you may have a goal to achieve in 2026. It can be anything but as we are on element14 community let's discuss a skill or a new learning that you want to achieve in 2026.

For the year 2025 I had decided to start PCB making and I did so by making two PCBA designs. For the 2026, I plan to learn FPGA in detail.

What are your plans for 2026?

This year, I’m resolving to invest more time in 'mentorship' at home. My work situation has changed quite a bit recently, and I now work from home for a downsized international firm. Because I'm already…

Thanks for feedback. I tried opencv once 5 years ago. Im open to suggestions for object tracking and detection alternatives to ROS2.

I'm more and more considering investing in a 3D scanner to get better models of circuit boards to include in my parametric designs.

The cost factor will be quite important, but I'm all ears for advice on what characteristics are the most important

I plan on learning how finish things.  I have several long-term projects in the works, but I need to make some real headway on finishing some of these.

My number one project is  Outdoor Lighting - Light Up My Path which I have been spending a lot of time on during the Christmas/New Year break.  I have run the rest of the cables, build forms for concrete bases (two poured, two ready to pour and two more to go).  I have been in the shop re-inventing the mounts for the glass blocks to conduit, attempting to build all the parts out aluminum stock and HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), as my 3D printer is still not quite working right.  I have one completed prototype and I am now working on mass producing the 5 remaining mounts.

My second project is https://community.element14.com/products/roadtest/rv/roadtest_reviews/1774/keysight_battery_emulator_and_profiler_-_e36731a_building_a_solar_powered_fountainbirdbath which was a roadtest/project that I have been working on for a while.  Once I complete the first project, I will re-start this one.

Not everyday.  I become a lapsed coder and periodically have to sharpen that part of the brain so to speak... the interesting thing is that I've been playing around with VS Code and it finishes my thoughts for me... and often types the next 3 or for 4 lines.

For 2026, I’m aiming to deepen my understanding of embedded systems and IoT projects, especially working with Raspberry Pi and ESP32 boards. I also want to explore more advanced robotics and automation skills.

My plan is to get back to my roots - Arduino.  Not all my old stuff works anymore and (in my mind) it should.  And a bit like dang74 , I need to reengage that part of my brain.
    Then maybe reboot RetroPi.
Read more of The Art of Electronics - and try some of the circuits out.

Cool, ESP32 as well as Raspberry Pi. I have good experience with both. Let me know if you get stuck somewhere!

Hum, interesting to know that you wanna try some Electronics that too using some magazine, Are you able to convert those skills that you spend time on learning actually convert to something useful? Or is it useful in your work?
