This month's question has no way to make a comment.

The question of impact of technology on attention span doesn't have an "Other" category and no comment field.

Mostly the thing literally being focussed on is technology, usually a screen.

Perhaps eye strain from monitors has an effect on attention. (You need to remember to blink at a reasonable rate) High refresh rate is also less fatiguing.

I don't see technology per se affecting attention span, but things like push content where we get bombarded with unrequested content, spam, updates and ads all are definite distractions and time wasters.

Even Windows doing unrequested tasks in the background can mess up what I am working on.

I almost never use a mobile phone, certainly not for any regular tasks, so that isn't a factor for me.

Multitasking generally reduces productivity, more for some people and some tasks than others but is just something to be optimized for overall productivity and performance.

    Agreed.

I would always schedule my work so that I could not have any interruptions and therefore get a lot done.

When I was managing others, I conducted management by walking around, going to each of my people where they worked so that I only interrupted them for a short time, but gave them the opportunity to let me know what I could do for them to improve their work.

The question isn't done in the usual way and is sort of mixed up with the Podcasts promotion.

The vote is duff too, you can't vote "other" .

I don't find my phone or email distracting - when I'm busy I ignore them. My phone can go for months with the alert sounds all turned off except for an actual phone call.

I'll look at WhatsApp when I'm ready  - which might be once a day - sometimes more - sometimes less.

Every now and again I miss something - when its important they find a way .....

Nevermind idleness, cell phones are the devil's work shop.

... and what you say regarding multitasking rings true for me.  I lose a lot of time switching and sometimes even confuse which task is associated with which project... and more often than not I forget to do something.
