I remember trying to increase the magnetism with a 6 V lantern battery. When the wires started smoking, the teacher took everything away and we never did anything electrical again.
I know a senior executive who always says that burning things is actually a good thing, it’s part of the learning process. As long as it happens in a controlled environment and you learn something from it!
I remember doing this in class. I tried to show off by using a 12V DC charger instead of a battery and held the coil with my bare hands (no gloves). It heated up way faster than expected… and I ended up burning my hands.
