I need help on designing a handheld storage based on micro SD Card + QSPI interface + Wi-Fi data transfer

Hello Fellow Engineers and Experts,

I want to design a device to replace the super expensive iCloud or Gcloud digital monopoly.  So you can download your beloved digital contents from your phone any time through Wi-Fi.  Then, stack them up one by one infinitely under your desk.

It is my basic components:

  1. micro SD Card
  2. SQPI interface and controller
  3. a MCU with SQPI peripheral, with SoC Wi-Fi
  4. a built-in Li+ battery
  5. Li+ charger chip
  6. any more
  7. There are already many USB storages for this purpose.  So this method will not be my goal.

Please share your opinions.  Perhaps, we can work together.  Wink

I am not fit to validate this idea, but what comes in my mind first is to test out of this actually is suitable enough and construct a complete PoC (including software) for the same.

I can suggest you set of MCU which has SD card slot by default (usually good speed). ESP32-P4 varient. You could write the firmware to make it the AP and the device (or devices) could connect to the STA using PSK2/3 and upload videos/photos for the same (software part will be critical and has to be optimised). Once this is success you could add up HSM (Hardware Security Module) for increasing access security of the SD card.

(If this becomes a product, it makes more sense if you never inform the user its a SD card. Just give a device which they have for 1TB packed in a casing. They could access it as a SSD or wireless device and ESP32 P4 with 32 Mb of flash and Ram can easily do all of this)

Keep your journey posted, will be interested to learn more.
