Right now I am rebuilding my little room into a more functional cube of awesome, lets see them pics I wanna see where everyone finds their quiet time spot aka workbench

here is a shot of part of my cube think the room is roughly 8x10 and have a angle in the one corner so removes a bit of real estate.

    Hi James,

We recently had to move a load of equipment for some prototyping and limited assembly, and it was surprising how little is sometimes needed to be quite productive. Just a few boxes on a trolley.

For a larger lab we spent a fair amount of course, but the team also spent some time on the environment, to make people more productive, want to learn and explore, and not feel intimidated. I suspect you've observed that from your line of work too of course.

gam3t3ch this page lists some useful tools and storage if you're curious what others purchase, although it depends a lot on what you're planning to use it for, so this list won't suit everyone:

I'm in admiration of some of the setups I see here. OK, granted, I'm not an electronics engineer in the same way that most people here are, I'm an educator, but still, I mean, those setups really do look nice. I have an oscilloscope, frequency generator, power supply, enough wires to go around the house ten times, and quite a few evaluation boards, but that is about it, really. Oh, and lots of lights to take photos.

Here is a potentially intriguing idea if you have the real estate available.  Out here occasionally people will be getting rid of mobile homes off of lots where the only cost is you moving them.

So now my wife and I are saving up a little to be sure to have the funds available for transport and when we find a solid enough mobile home I will be able to have a decent sized workshop.  The one that started this planning was a 14x80 mobile home we saw on Craigslist.  Since we didn't have the money in hand to pay for moving we were not able to go to far with that one.  Next step will be going to the County government and making sure we are not violating something somewhere.  :-)

    Hi Wesley,

Thanks for the great picture. You have a nice space and all the essentials. My space has been a work in progress for the last 60 years. Hardly a day goes by that I am not reorganizing something. I was very lucky as my parents let me have a shop from the time I was about 7 years old. Sometimes I salvage components and sometimes I build something. Many times I just sit and think. You can go to my profile by clicking on my name and there is a picture there of me and a corner of the shop. I look forward to seeing some of the thinks that you do in your shop.

    John

Take a look a Dave Stanton's workshop on YouTube - It's not an electronics workshop but boy is it awesome, tidy and neat!
