Thank you, Michael Wylie, for nominating me.  Element14 is returning a social element to electronics which I thought died when production went abroad and the factories around here closed.  What a wonderful topic for discussion electronics represents!  It has been long held that top electronics designers are a rancorous bunch, full of mutual enmity.  Competing in a zero-sum game for the same modest kudos.  Men contend most vehemently when there is nothing on the table.  Let me state, firstly, that everyone on this page is a top-drawer designer and a paragon of good efforts.  Everyone here is a king of his specialty and features vast general knowledge as well.

Let us all strive to be mutually supportive and community supporting!  I've lost my temper, said some things that could be considered insulting.  My son told me this morning that I am a good guy when I am not being a snot.  Every one of us is very prideful.  If we weren't we wouldn't have climbed this mountain.  Let's not let this pride matriculate into vindictiveness.  I regret any words that were interpreted to be or intended to be hurtful.

I've been in and out of e- for thirty-four years, computers thirty eight.  I've forgotten stuff.  Sometimes I mis-recall things when I am too exhausted to verify my 'facts' despite the ease the internet makes lookin' stuff up.  Some opinions I hold should be re-investigated, sometimes I simply don't know what I don't know.

Please, when regarding me remember L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz.  I am the man behind the curtain.  It has been my ambition to be an electronics writer for a quarter-century.  The late Bob Pease was always a hero to me.  If I ever pull off a slick metaphor or consolidation on this site it's because I have been practicing at stoplights all of this time.  I was a teen parent with two boys in public housing.  That experience was madding.  To stabilize my personality I would order data sheets, one of the few forms of causation I could manifest at that time.  I read them, tried to understand them.  Then I would practice over-and-over how I would say it.  I'm a ringer.  Don't compare yourself to me.

Let me suggest that the next fellow we put up for this honor be John Wiltrout.  He may not be the greatest theoretician on this site, though I make no apologies for his talents.  No one here embodies the spirit of comity and goodwill to the degree that John does, in my opinion.  I don't try to out-polite Canucks, out-hospitality Southerners, nor out-sincere 'sconnies.

My hesitation in responding to this has no roots in disrespect.  To be so honored by my professional acquaintances is awesome and forces me to ponder if I am deserving, overcome my disbelief.  I do enjoy this.  I do put some effort in.  It is my profound hope to be able to keep doing this.

Thank You all, I am genuinely moved by this honor.

I'll try to work in 'verklempt' or 'whelmed.'  image

Sorry, John, but I am rendered mute and awed by this touching consideration.  So I will let a few others speak for me:

I will try to use this honor for good and endeavor not let it swell my head any further.
