About MichaelKellett in his own words:
"I am an independent electronics engineer (ie. I design/test things for other companies) with interests ranging from high performance analogue to FPGA supported networking.
I first got interested in electronics when I was a kid and I've been building things ever since. Like a good many electronics engineers of my age my first serious projects were audio (amplifiers and speakers). I was lucky enough to have a father in the same business (he designed some of the very first general purpose transistor logic elements) - I can remember him explaining how transistors worked when I was still quite small.
Luckily, I still get to do some audio work (there is something special about being able to listen a new board) but most of the current stuff is little ARM processors, FPGAs and signal processing type analogue. I program mainly in C and VHDL but I'll use other tools when I have to.
I like to actually make things, so I assemble my own prototype boards (fine pitch surface mount by hand is amazingly easy) and I have a reasonably equipped machine shop for the mechanical stuff.
I'm happy to help people with electronics related problems when I can - giving advice is always fun and I think it might sometimes even be useful ! When asking for help E14 users will find they get a much better response (not just from me) if they describe the project and their circumstances to give some context to the problem.
I live in South West Scotland which is great, but very quiet, so element 14 makes a good substitute for workplace socialising.
