I think the PSOC technology is the best technology introduction for 2013. I provides the engineer with so many options it is far above just a MCU. DAB

I voted energy harvesting, because I think single board computers were already sooooo 2012 image

Seriously, this year has seen an enormous flight of components getting available for harvesting; passives, DC-DC converters and reaallly low power microcontrollers....

    Hi John

I identified the PSOC because it is more than just an MCU.  The programmable digital and analog components make it an advance device over the others.

RPI and BBB are faster and aimed at a different type of user.  The PSOC is a unique hybrid device with much more versatility than those two in more applications.

But then, that is just my opinion, image

I agree that PSoC is a great technology and amazingly versatile.  However, it is hardly new for 2013.  The original PSoC shipped in 2002 according to Wikipedia.  The vastly improved PSoC3 and 5 families were introduced in 2009.  PSoC 4 and 5LP are indeed new this year, and the excellent PSoC 4 Pioneer board and Schmartboard w/ PSoC 5LP provide low-cost introductions to the technology.

In this category, I voted for Single Board Computers which includes those two boards, as well as dozens of other great boards like BeagleBone Black.  PSoC 4 is included in the "Product of the Year" category.
