Freedom FRDM-KL25Z adventures pt1.

The Freescales FRDM-KL25Z Platform comes in a nice little package and at a great price, but it does not come with much needed headers for utilizing shields.

I'll start my advantures with this board by soldering on the 4 different headers. These are the headers that I ordered: 2 2X8, 1 2X6 and 1 2X10.

Keep in mind, if you have longer headers you can always cut them down to size.

I notice that laying the board down with the headers up keeps them centered, so I lay the board on my work bench and solder 2 corners of each header utilizing this method.

I take a look to make sure everything is flush, finish soldering up the rest, and then place a shield on just to be sure.

Everything seems to be in order and I'm now ready to see what I can do with CoCo and Mbed.

Hi Fidel, I found it useful that Freescale left it flexible how the user could connect up the board, e.g. to pins or sockets, from top or bottom, as long as people remember to order those parts too, although…

You may have already noted, but it looks like they are now being shipped with headers.

You can choose to fit them or not, but it beats having to order seperatelt and mybe cutting down to fit.

    Well done E14.

I agree with you shabaz, at first I was gonna solder on male headers with long female leads, kinda like TI Stellaris Launchpad but I had already ordered the headers, And I to am glad Freescale came up with a low price powerful board. It's perfect for people on a low buget and wanting to learn/start on 32bit ARM.

    Hi Fidel,

I found it useful that Freescale left it flexible how the user could connect up the board, e.g. to pins or sockets, from top or bottom, as long as people remember to order those parts too, although they can get started on day 1 with the on-board I/O devices. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures. I've had very little time to try it out, but from my limited use I thought it was amazing; extremely powerful and low cost. I'm glad that Freescale came up with this board!
