A word about CUPS and printer installation:

First I checked what I had on my MacBookPro and I first managed to have the CUPS procedure after a bit of tinkering on Terminal!

Then on the Raspberry pi I follow the procedure but I had an unexpected problem at the end page 4/6:

strange enough I have the same rev (cups 1.5.3) as the document but looking at the window at the bottom of page 4/6 I do not have the same layout on the last line "Or Provide a PPD File:" instead of the button  "chose File" I have on my browser  a box "Drop a file here".

As the *.ppd file was on the desktop I say it'll be easy! I will drag the file from the desktop to the box written "Drop the file here" but it did not work, the file always came back to the desktop! This was very frustrating!

I suppose the browser I choose has not this capability to do it, so I will use another one, as there are at least 2 browsers provided with the pi! May be I will use Midori the other browser on the desktop?

Has someone used already this procedure and had a similar problem?

    Many thanks anyway

Some suggestions if you run Raspian:

    You should probably install:

cupsys (cups itself, the server that receives print jobs)

cupsys-bsd (cups version of bsd print command like lpr)

cupsys-client (cups print commands, "lp" and others)

Install CUPS (the cupsys package) and then the foomatic-bin and

foomatic-db packages, the most complete printer driver database and

helpers. Follow their docs and manpages, they are very easy to follow,

and luckily with a single command line your printer will be set up.

    Hope this helps,

    Clem
