I'm Seeking Paid Bloggers to Support RoadTests, Webinars and Other Areas of Engineering Interest

While most of our community contains user-generated content, there are times when I have the need to generate some specific content that the writer will be compensated financially.

Two examples  would be to support roadtests and webinars. For instance, if I am roadtesting a product that has not been discussed that much on the community, I would like to have some articles on the community that can talk about the products or the technology. This also goes for webinars.

Beyond that, there are times when I am approached by a supplier and I need him/her to generate specific content. They may not have the time to do it. This would be another instance.

Finally, one of my tasks in the community that most of the members are probably not aware of is my monitoring content in our different spaces and suggesting new content, just as a managing editor would do on a magazine.

While our current bloggers do a great job, we would like to have more of them.  I am interested in deep technical treatments. Things that would be useful. Not necessarily newsy or gimmicky stuff. However, thought leadership articles by an industry insider who offers insights into an upcoming trend would also interest me. This is what I am interested in:

Embedded Engineering, FPGAs, Industrial Automation, Internet of Things Engineering, Motor Control, Microcontrollers, Power Design, Energy Technology, Seminconductors, Circuit Analysis.

I am also in need of people who can offer examples, case studies, tips on software/coding, etc.

Other things would include:

Zigbee, WiFi, Z-Wave, Thread, NFC, 6LoWPAN, Cellular, SigFox, Neul, LoRaWAN, Ingenu, Weightless, MQTT, CoAP, AMQP, XMPP, DDS, CoR

If you are interested, you can message me at rscasny

Thanks.

rscasny This is an interesting initiative to generate participation and useful content at the same time. Some of the topics are pretty big - you could write a book. How extensive do you see a typical blog…

Enrico, If I were to ask you, choose a topic that would inform a Maker how to be a better maker or a topic that would stimulate a discussion on the community, what would you write about? Randall

    What would it pay?

Would it exclude me from applying for other things on the site? Design competitions, RoadTests, etc...

If I wanted to explore a piece of gear, would you supply the gear?

    Randall,

these are two interesting questions opening the view to what I think maybe the worth to blog on, accordingly with my most relevant knowledge.

a topic that would inform a Maker how to be a better maker

A topic open to an incredibly wide series of very different contents; the line guides that may be important to point the attention IMHO are:

    • Methodology
    • Pragmatic
    • Right approach on testing and issue analysis
    • Right approach to problem solving

Under this very generic assumptions there are a lot of different contexts that can be explored, probably four roles applicable to any "maker" approach. That is also the same I usually follow. This means we can blog - keeping always an eye to the Element14 main topic that is electronics - on building objects, hacking stuff, building own tools, solving problems with low cost stuff, how and where to find the materials, how to make experiments replicable, the meaning of to be open (not only software and hardware) and sharing knowledge and more.

a topic that would stimulate a discussion on the community

This second option probably is more interesting to the other; anyway I think both the directions you mention may stimulate the discussion between users (not only the TMs or the most active users on the community). I propose two:

    1. 3D printing tips and methods: Always starting from case-study every article explores the world of 3D printing, the key-concepts and the core aspects to make good creations. This involves not only the use of the 3D printer (that is the last sep of the workflow) but also 3D design, material choice, object splitting, and many other aspects. I see that the community of makers that uses the 3D printer for their prototypes is always growing (also in the Element14 community) but most of them have no methodology and - most of all - not clear the concept that a well 3D printed object depends on the right design approach.

    2. Mobile and DSLR photography tools: I see that this is a few covered area and most of the projects that users can find on the network are really poor (as a matter of fact not useful at all) or are not easy to replicate even if are formally declared as open source. I think too that with a minimal communication a dedicated series may increase the users audience and not only stimulate the discussion but we see an emergine number of users that love photography and are interested to. Sure the conclave of the Element14 boss team knows better than me the over the top scenario of the users interests, requests and tendencies. Anyway I think it is the worth to make a try. I have a lot of already done projects, from stop motion to light painting, animation, camera motion and more. Projects from very low cost (just and Arduino and a couple of servos and few other components) up to complex projects.

Let me know what you think about.

    Douglas,

You have a good point. Perhaps we could do a 2, 3, 4, nth part blog. That would be up to you.

I would not expect you or anyone to write a book. Of course, there is a balance between what would be covered in a specific blog and the time to produce it. So, if you were going to take on the subject of PID loops. You could introduce them for the newbies and then go into an example of how/why they have been used in control systems.

It sounds like you are interested in this. So, I have a meeting with my boss this week and I'll mention your interest. She deals with the paperwork.

When I read this post I worried about the need to be only extra technical but I like instead this:

I am also in need of people who can offer examples, case studies, tips on software/coding, etc.

All the stuff I teach in my life was also example-oriented and I think that it is one of the best methods to accomplish technical knowledge to make products presentation very attractive.

I wrote a lot in past, articles and books on theory applied to some specific fields or components but as far as I know I think that there are real engineers here that like dougw can do this kind of job better than me. I think instead to have also a range of options around to implement good experiments and case-studies.
