I'm not very patient................[tap tap taping fingers on the table]

OK, after two hours of installing software, reflashing the Edison board firmware and re-installing Arduino 1.8 with Edison core libraries............

Ta Da.......I've managed to blink the LED!

It's the simple things in life..............that make it all worth while.........

Next we'll try and talk to some Arduino shields.

After downloading all the manuals and examples I could find on instructables and element14, I just followed all the instructions on

    https://software.intel.com/en-us/get-started-edison-windows

I had to find a couple of cables and a power supply

    Then I assembled the board

    https://software.intel.com/en-us/get-started-edison-windows-step1

    https://software.intel.com/en-us/node/628221

I set up the board in device mode

    https://software.intel.com/en-us/node/628222

Then I ran the setup tool

    https://software.intel.com/en-us/node/628222

Using the installer for windows 64bit

    https://software.intel.com/iot/hardware/edison/downloads

After installing the USB driver and flashing the new firmware I picked the Arduino User interface

    https://software.intel.com/en-us/get-started-edison-windows-step3

    https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-edison-board-user-guide

At this point I tried to run an Arduino sketch, but there wasn't a board manager in Arduino 1.6,

So I had to download and install Arduino 1.8 and then install the intel edison core libraries.

After that, I was able to run the Blinky example on the edison board.
