Microsoft Will Die!

17 Jun 2015

I just checked out the MS Windows 10 Developer preview. It was a disaster. I know it's still not ready, but it still has the horrible "Live Tiles". I didn't like it. (I know that it still isn't finished.)

Windows 95, XP, and 7 were microsoft's HUGE hits. If they can't make another hit like that, I think one of these might happen:

IBM will come out of it's hiding place and continue OS/2.

BeOS Will comeback

We will all go to apple.

We will all go to Linux.

If Microsoft Dies, I going to Linux Mint

I've used windows all my life, and I loved it, (I have about 6 commuters all running different versions of windows, and one computer running 3 version of Linux.)

I really hope MS doesn't die image

I have a strong feeling ms will die. And this is what killed it:

Please let me know your thoughts in the comments.

(If MS dies I will never sleep again! Yes, I'm a Microsoft FanBoy)

Since you have made no comment on what Windows10 actually does other than "it still has the horrible "Live Tiles"" it's not easy to tell why you think it's a disaster. Does it support the traditional …

I had heard good things about Windows 10, but I have not run it yet. I agree, Windows 8.0 and 8.1 were not well developed. Too much betting on the tablet market they forgot about the millions of us who…

The touch tile concept is cool and should be developed to see how useful it can get.

But it is irresponsible to force Windows users to cripple their productivity for years while this development is taking place.

The touch tile interface should not even be called Windows - the actual widows are gone and the flexibility and power of windows is gone.

And it is not possible to work around the new interface in any productive way.

Microsoft has the resources to support 2 products - there is no need to cripple their bread-and-butter products with radical and risky changes.

This new OS is most likely to erode their dominant desktop market share, the 2 main places they can expand market share are by attracting Apple users or convincing people to stop using smart phones. This OS cannot do either, but it can alienate some of their existing user base. The desktop market, despite its sluggish growth it is still a gigantic market, but it would seem Microsoft is willing to risk their existing market to try and break into the smart phone market. It is a supreme risk, since they must compete against free operating systems to do it. The classic method of entering with a free product until you dominate the market and then start charging for the product may not work in this instance. Maybe they are thinking that once their existing users are used to touch tiles they will be ecstatic about switching to a tablet (Surface) where the interface makes more sense. We will just have to see how it plays out - at our expense. Right now it still looks like a massive mistake.

Frankly I don't know if if MS will die (but miracle exists, maybe?) because the last that I saw dying was Nokia, just killed by MS ... But it is the worth that more engineers start awaking and discover the other continents but the small limited and licensed world of MS.

One of the great blocking factors in my opinion, is that MS was able to create an entire echo-system of hardware developers, project managers and so on that need windows as fundamental tool for their development. This is one of the biggest handicaps, as this strongly condition the future creations and developments.
