next project suggestion at home seismograph with data logging and maybe a mesh network of them to pin point the direction. The Surf Lab: A Place For Kooks and Dukes Alike

    This was meant to be a suggestion For the element 14 presents "you tube" but i will say i did find some Arduino modules for the senors the question would be how sensitive they were.

    Someone here in Christchurch made one for detecting earthquakes a few years back.

    I think he just used accelerometers to give measurement of all three axis and you're only looking for 1-2G forces.

     

    For those that aren't aware the Chch earthquakes re-wrote the book as we had 2.2G vertical accelerations.

    In some cases the buildings were coming down at 1G (freefall) as the ground came back up.

    Prior to this all the modeling was sideways shaking.

    You are right about that. But the kind of sensors that you use will be one of the main factors for it to work.
